30 for 30: Day 12

Friend Friday topic this week:  Blogger Copying

1. What are the 'unwritten rules' about copying content that we bloggers should all abide by?
Always credit and link back to the original source.  As an additional courtesy, ASK before you post.  A simple email will make a world of difference and you might even make a new friend.

2. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. But when is a post imitation and when is it copying?
It's copying when the pictures and text are not your own.  It's not a good idea.  You'd be better off simply sharing the original post with your readers by saying, "I love so-n-so's take on such-n-such!"  Read it here!"  with a link.

3. Taking another blogger's idea (perhaps for an outfit, or DIY tutorial) is pretty common in the blogging world. Do you think it is necessary to credit the original source?
Yes.  I really don't see the point in intentionally duplicating a post idea if you don't have something to add or change.  As a reader, I would not be interested in a post I've already seen somewhere else.

4. How have you improved your blog by comparing it to other blogs? Have you made changes due to something you have seen others doing?
There are some great blogs out there that have definitely inspired and challenged me as a blogger.  Mostly in terms of layout and blog style.  I increased the size of my pictures.  I paid for a unique, professional header.  I've learned that I don't have to come up with a lengthy text post every day (thank goodness).  I never intended on posting outfit photos, but learned that it was something that I could do and enjoy while benefiting my readership.

I've never intentionally copied some one's post idea.  There may be other "How to Throw a Clothes Swap" posts out there, but I didn't know about them before I posted mine, so my ideas are 100% my own.

5. Have you ever had one of your posts copied by another blogger or publication? How did you handle the situation?
I haven't had a post copied as far as I know.  I would be fine with it so long as it was credited and linked.  If not, I would probably email the blogger or publication asking them to do so or unpublish it (please).  I know a copyright lawyer.  Don't mess with me.  :)

I am really liking this mix and match outfit! The dots and plaid mesh better than I ever thought that it would.

Now, in other news. Is that...is that...SNOW?? I'm in Iowa and it hasn't hit us yet. I hate snow! (with the exception of snow on Christmas, that's it!)

Cool look, the mixture of plaid and polka dot is wonderful. I really like how you stuck towards 1 overall color scheme.

Great Remix

I like the polka dot mixing. I may try that sometime. Crediting and linking back to you, of course. :)
