Spoils of Wear had a birthday. She's 2. Isn't that precious? Better yet..."cute"? I put "cute" in quotes because that's what people say about it. Always. Depending on the person, I most often take "cute" as a very nice compliment (thank you). But sometimes, from a few people, I wonder if "cute" isn't just a little bit like "fine". And they say "fine" isn't really "fine" at all.
My BFF's husband went through drug rehab back in his younger days, during which they were never able to say they were "fine". "Fine" stood for F'd up, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional. Sheesh. And I thought "fine" literally meant...Fine.
Anyway...back to "cute". Regardless of what folks really mean when they use that word (little, quaint, silly, adorable, ect.), I will agree. This is cute. I, myself, am also...kind of...cute...I guess. And since Spoils of Wear is a reflection of me, that just makes sense. I'm cute. It's cute. Cute, cute, cute.
In 2011, I will be embracing cuteness instead of cowering from it. I will respond to compliments with security and pride instead of shyness and embarrassment. Maybe it's taken me a while to get good at this whole blogging thing (compared to others), but I'm finally ready to own it...
We (the blog and I) are cute. We're good at it. And totally fine with it.

Happy bloggy birthday! I hear "cute" a lot and it used to make me cringe. I wanted to be sophisticated or beautiful.
I think cute, at least in your case, means more than fine. Real girl, accessible, inspirational style.

Kick ass, Jill. Cute gets a bad rep, but it's still a word with positive connotations! Some of those comments might have had a touch of "Minnesota Nice" in 'em, but hey. Why not forget that, and just be proud of what you've built? Which is, after all, awesome.

I've been "cute" my whole entire life. I'm pint sized- people can't help it. I asked everyone to be sure to call me "beautiful" or "gorgeous," or even "SEXY" on my wedding day, but the rest of the days, I'm totally okay with cute. :) And if cute means kick ass, hot as fire, and super creative, you (and the blog) are definitely cute.

I've had the 'cute' discussion, mostly with myself. I've always felt like that word was reserved for short people. Most people don't refer to tall gals as 'cute' and refer to short gals only as cute. I guess it's better than being called ugly.

when i went through a divorce and was a single mom of two (at the age of 24) of a 4 and 1 yo, i HATED the word cute.
i felt so much older than that. was responsible for so much more than what being called "cute" implied.
i rebelled and bleach my hair and got an armband tattoo. You know what?
I got called hot. Believe it or not, that's not better than cute. ;)
Now, at almost 38 - and the morhter of FOUR girls - i would embrace be calling cute, lol.

P.S. "Fine" is a forbidden word in my house - it is my absolute least favorite word to hear from husband when I ask him how I look. It is now banned.
