Friend Friday: Blogger Mechanics

There is barely enough daylight left to take pictures by the time I get home from work, but it's getting better every day.  I love you, Light.  Come on out and feel free to stay awhile.

This week's Friend Friday topic is Blogger Mechanics:

1. What technology do you use in blogging? (computer, camera, video camera, tripod, etc...)

I am not a very tech-savvy person, but try to challenge myself a little bit at a time in order be a better blogger.  I blog mostly on my MacBook and use iphoto for picture editing.  My camera is a Canon PowerShot SX200 IS.  It's really easy to use. I can set it up on a timer when my handy husband isn't around to play photographer.

2. What computer and online technology do you use? (blogging system, photo storage, photo editing tools, etc..)

Blogspot is the platform I use.  I understand that a lot of bloggers are moving to WordPress, but I have no intention of doing that right now.  Like I said, I'm not very tech-savvy, and even simple tutorials can infuriate me when something doesn't work properly.  If I ever made the switch, I would pay someone to do it for me and do it right.

My photos are stored in iphoto which is also what I use for editing.  It's not fancy, but it will do until I invest in Photoshop.

3. What is your process for taking pictures?

Whenever seems most convenient, I put the camera in Steve's hand and politely ask if he'll take my picture.  OR, I'll set it up on a timer and do it myself.  I'm still not entirely comfortable taking outfit pictures (if not by now, will I ever be?), so the sooner the process is over, the better.

4. When it comes to backdrops for your photos what do you consider? Do you scout locations or shoot the same spot daily?

I tend to use the same outdoor shots around my home.  I'm all about convenience and privacy.  Every once in a while I'll do something different, but I don't go out of my way.

5. If you could splurge and get one new piece of equipment what would you be buying?

A fancy camera and tripod would be nice, but in all honesty, I would probably still use my point-and-shoot a lot more for it's portability and easy use.  What I really need is Photoshop.  Not sure if that's a 'splurge' or not.

I love Photoshop! Elements is also a nice alternative. Check out the 30 day trial of either {or both} if you're debating. I love both prgorams!

I love Photoshop, but it can get somewhat complicated, plus it slows my computer down. I usually save Photoshop for the extra-special pictures that I want to keep forever or require extra doctoring. I stopped using iPhoto because it made 3+ copies of all my photos, and I ran out of space on my computer. I've found that on everyday blog photos, Preview works very well. Its very basic and easy to use, but it still has the most important editing tools that iPhoto uses. I'm a little long-winded, but that's my recently perfected photo routine.

" I'm still not entirely comfortable taking outfit pictures"

I have off days and on days! I've been doing this what? Three years or so? And some days it's like "YEAH! I'm the awesomesauce and I am going to get photographic evidence!" And some days it's more like "I am the silliest girl alive and this outfit is boring and my hair is crap" but you push through, and for what it;'s worth you basically always look adorable!

The polka dot skirt is adorable and I like it with the colored tights.

I'm excited about longer days too!

Love the polka dots. Yes. Photoshop is a splurge. I's go with Photoshop Elements if I were you. It's much cheaper and unless you're going to become a graphic designer and do some serious photo editing and such you don't need the full version.

I completely agree with you decision to stay with Blogger for now. It's a great blogging system and works wonderfully well, especially for those without a ton of html knowledge. And if you ever do make the WP switch I whole-heartedly agree - pay someone to do it because it is a frustrating process. - Katy

I LOVE the pop of polka dots!! I kinda did that with a sequin skirt - wore an oversized sweater over sequin skirt. But I need more polka dots - b/c this is a fun look!

You seem totally natural in your photos! I am like you, though, I still feel awkward and uncomfortable with outfit pics. haha Which is ironic because I take them daily.

ps. I am obsessed with this outfit. I love the hint o' polka dots. CUTE!
