FBFF: Blog Pet Peeves

Check out my high-tech blog with it's very own domain name!  Oh, the joy.

I accidentally published an unedited version of this post on Wednesday.  So those of you following along via RSS or email subscription may have already seen this.  That darn Publish Post button can be such a jerk sometimes.

Did everybody read Beautifully Invisible's post '10 Things about your Blog That Drive Me Crazy'?  If not, you should.  It's a good read.

FBFFer's are going to follow suit today with 5 Blog Pet Peeves.  Check out a list of others who participated today on Modly Chic.

1.  Music.  Definitely #1.  Makes me feel a little violated and betrayed.  First, I may not dig your taste in music and may be put-off by the rest of your blog because of it.  Secondly, friends don't get friends in trouble. And we were friends, right?  Before your blog started screaming at me in the middle of church.  What am I doing reading blogs in church?  That's beside the point.

2.  Comments.  Where are they?  I'd love to give you some friendly feedback, a ravishing review, or a perky pleasantry, but I can't find your comments.  OR your Disqus is taking forever to load. OR word verification is harassing me...again.  I'm just a simple girl with a little something to say.  Convenient commenting is down right detrimental.

3.  Picture quality and quantity. Itty bitty or poor quality pics are a bummer.  If your photo shoot didn't work out, try again another day or create a similar array in Polyvore or forgo pictures all together. Just my opinion. Concerning quantity: a full-body shot of you 6 times in relatively the same pose = redundant.  Again, just my opinion.

4.  "Click to Read".  Meh.  No thanks.  I'd rather scroll.  This feature is ok sometimes, like for giveaways, but other than that, I think it's annoying.

5.  I can't read your post from my RSS feed.  I have to click into it.  I'm not techie enough to know whether this is strategic for stats purposes, or bloggers are unaware, or if I'm just not doing something right with my reader.  In any case, I don't like it.  So you only want me reading your blog if it helps your stats? You're purposefully creating extra work for me -  a potentially adoring reader?.  K, then your blog better be flippin' amazing, or I'm just not going to visit at all.  Sorry, that was harsh.  Truth is, I'm just that lazy.

All sorts of fun to be had this weekend, y'all.  See ya back here on Monday!

That shirt is super cute!

Bloggers do the click to read from feeds either to stop people from stealing their feed and putting it on another site, or to force you to go to their blog and boost their page hits. The click to read on the actual blog is to boost stats too. Both totally put me off... you should get good stats for a good blog, not forcing your readers to jump hoops! :)

I love reading the FBFF responses!

I don't think I've ever visited your blog before, but I am officially hooked.

I LOVE your voice. So witty.

I agree wholeheartedly with #1 - 3. I am guilty of #4 on occasion, but try to avoid it.

#5 - I think this one is controlled by individual bloggers. They need to set up their feed to show the whole post so you don't have to click through. I believe that's what mine does. I hope.

Great responses!

I love your post! Good job! I love your outfit, too! Super cute! Mustard-yellow is one of my favorite colors. And it does look killer with grey. I have a cardi from Anthro with those colors in it I purchased for last fall.... LOVE IT! Hope your weekend is awesome! Cheers!

The music thing? Sooo with you, mostly b/c naptime is my main time to read blogs, and is the ONLY time my house is quiet. Suddenly your blog is blasting it's way into the silence and I'm just not a fan. As far as the comments go, if I can't find it easily, I'm probably not going to bother. The picture thing is my biggest pet peeve. I'm no photography expert, but if it's grainy or blurry, it just shouldn't be posted. 4? Totally guilty. I do lots of giveaways, so I'm sort of in the habit. 5? Honestly, I'm not techno-savvy enough to know for sure, and I don't blog to make to money (I know, cray huh?) so I hope you can read my content from the feed!

Whew - sorry for the novel.:)

Totally agree on the music, and the hunting for comments section!

Oh hi, you're completely adorable. Your outfit is the bee's knees, love those pops of color!

The bit about six full-body shots in a row, I agree. If it's a really engaging outfit in a really good location I can enjoy a full-on photoshoot, or if the outfit post is combined with photos of an event, but otherwise I feel like it doesn't take more than two pictures to capture an outfit and the rest just become about...modeling? And then I can't help but think, Are you documenting what you're wearing or how you look in what you're wearing? But outfit posts are a rarity from me in general so I shouldn't really critique that.

I agree with all your comments - especially #1. Hard to check out blogs at work when music comes blaring out :)

BTW - LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes. I wish I had gotten them in that color when they were available.
